Overview

Grok is xAI's assistant, available on the web, iOS, and Android. It supports custom MCP connectors, added by URL from the connectors page, with automatic tool discovery once the connector is active.

Once connected, your AI loads your Core Imprint, searches your Knowledge Vault, and remembers what it learns — across every tool. Knowledge stored from Grok is there when you open Claude, ChatGPT, or any other connected client, and vice versa.

Quick path: grok.com/connectors → New Connector → Custom → paste the Tempreon URL → complete the authentication prompts.

Availability note: Connectors are available to all Grok users — xAI's connectors documentation says so directly, and Connectors is a listed feature of the Free plan. The one gate is organizational: on Business and Enterprise plans a team admin provisions connectors in the cloud console for the workspace. Note also that Tempreon's URL works here because it is publicly reachable; Grok rejects localhost and private-range addresses.

Prerequisites

  • A Grok account — connectors are available to all Grok users, Free included. On Business and Enterprise, a team admin provisions connectors for the workspace first
  • A Tempreon account with at least one available Bridge slot
  • Your Tempreon MCP server URL (also shown in your Bridges dashboard)

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Open the connectors page

Go to grok.com/connectors, or find Connectors in Grok's settings.

2. Create a custom connector

  1. Click New Connector
  2. Choose Custom
  3. Enter the Tempreon MCP server URL:

3. Authenticate

Complete any authentication prompts that appear — you'll be taken to a Tempreon consent screen to sign in and approve. No API keys or client credentials are needed on the Tempreon side.

4. Verify

Grok discovers Tempreon's tools automatically once the connector is active. Ask "What Tempreon tools do you have access to?" to confirm.

Troubleshooting

You don't see a way to add a custom connector. Not a plan problem — connectors are available to all Grok users, Free included. On Business/Enterprise, a team admin has to provision the connector in the cloud console first, so the option genuinely is absent for members until they do. The admin path is console.x.ai → your team → Grok Business → Connectors → + Add Connector → Other, which needs Team Read-Write permissions.

Authentication doesn't complete. Retry from the connector entry — a half-finished flow leaves a connector that exists but was never authorized, which looks like a broken server.

The connection fails immediately. Confirm the URL ends in /mcp with no trailing slash: https://api.tempreon.com/functions/v1/tempreon-mcp/mcp.

The one gate is organizational: on Business and Enterprise plans a team admin has to provision the connector in the cloud console before members of the organization see it, so ask your workspace admin to add Tempreon. Admins do this at console.x.ai under Grok Business, then Connectors, using Add Connector and the Other option, which needs Team Read-Write permissions.
